MARMA

The Art of Conscious Touch

An exploration of Ayurvedic bodywork, vital points and the intelligence of touch.

THE BODY HAS POINTS OF CONVERGENCE.

107

Primary Marma points described in the Ayurvedic tradition.

NOT JUST A PRESSURE POINT.

Trigger Point

  • Muscle
  • Tension
  • Referred sensation
  • Mechanical pressure

Marma

  • Body Awareness
  • Prana
  • Intentional touch

Trigger-point therapy asks where tension is occurring. Marma asks what the whole person is communicating.

Touch

TOUCH DOESN'T HAVE TO BE FORCEFUL TO BE MEANINGFUL.

Marma may involve gentle contact, sustained pressure, massage, oils, breath and awareness.

Sometimes less pressure creates more awareness.

Ayurveda

NOT PARTS. RELATIONSHIPS.

Movement ↔ Structure

Body - Mind

Environment - Individual

Touch - Awareness

Marma exists inside Ayurveda's broader conception of the person.

THE BODY ALREADY SPEAKS.

A tight shoulder. A guarded hip. A clenched jaw. A place that feels unusually sensitive. A place that feels almost absent.

Marma begins with learning to listen before trying to change it.

Touch becomes observation. Pressure becomes information. Stillness becomes part of the practice.

AN OLD PRACTICE. A SIMPLE IDEA.

Attention. Touch. Awareness.
